March begins

Now that march has arrived spring seems to be within our grasp.  Despite there still being several inches of snow the days continue to warm slowly and days keep getting longer.  Daylight savings time is just over a week away.  Although we will certainly get more snow over the next few weeks the signs of spring continue to show.  Turkey Vultures are beginning to show up in greater numbers, Red winged Blackbirds and Common Grackles are starting to arrive (first ones over the yard late today) and more birds are starting to sing.  The Winter Wren was singing before dawn at home and I heard several Song Sparrows singing today as well.  Soon more waterfowl will arrive as well as other early migrants.
