On December 18th we took a trip away from the lodge down through San Isidro to the old home of Alexander Skutch which is now a protected wildlife area.  This trip was once again productive and allowed for some great photographs of various species.  The variation of species in the tropics is always amazing.  Hope all enjoy just a small selection of the species present there.

I also managed to get out briefly this morning and ran across a Iceland Gull (Kumlien's) below the Holyoke Dam viewed from the South Hadley side of the river.  Initially I was unsure if the bird was a Glaucous (seemed too small) or Iceland (seemed too big) or some hybrid.  I forwarded the photos to a few other experts who agreed it was an Iceland Gull (Kumlien's).  The other three expected species of gulls were there in good numbers plus three Common Goldeneye and a dozen plus Common Mergansers as well as hundreds of Canada Geese and a few Mallards.  This makes species #74 for the county this year for me...amazing in just a week and a half in January!
