I had another great morning along the river with a number of highlights including another Connecticut Warbler, a very cooperative Eastern Screech Owl and my first Philadelphia Vireo of the year. The Connecticut Warbler was a bit more cooperative this morning compared to the one I found yesterday and I managed to get a few photos that are identifiable. The owl provided me with the best views I have had of an Eastern Screech Owl around here in quite awhile. I noticed a very agitated mixed flock and in the middle of the melee was the owl just trying to blend in. The Philadelphia Vireo was within a mixed species flock and provided me with another new species for the county this year...#

Before dawn I made my way to Winsor Dam and still had at least one Eastern Whip Poor Will calling.
I also checked the Honey Pot and the East Meadows before my stop at Silvio Conte NWR. A few decent looking fields at both locations but just a few dozen Killdeer around (plus an unidentified fly by peep species). Now we just need some rain at the right time to down some migrant shorebirds.

Tennessee Warbler, Quabbin Park, MA, Sep 10, 2016 |
I made my way to Quabbin Park before the light rain started late morning and found a couple mixed species flocks in the small area I covered and turned up another Philadelphia Vireo as well as great selection of warblers. I ended the morning with a total of 19 species of warbler with highlights including the Connecticut Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Cape May Warbler and Bay breasted Warbler.
