Our weather continues to feel quite tropical with nighttime lows around 70-75 and daytime temperatures into the 80’s with high humidity.  Yesterday I made a brief stop back to Lake Wallace and once again ran across good numbers of Wood Ducks and Hooded Mergansers.  The Sora that has been there for several days continues to sound off but again eluded me from actually seeing it.  The Great Blue Herons are still in the nest and I noticed a third youngster I had missed on previous visits.  Winsor Dam was quite quiet during my brief visit there.

A new tropical storm formed recently from a tropical wave out in the Atlantic.  The new storm is named Chantal and is currently near the Lesser Antilles and is forecast to travel south of Puerto Rico and then hit Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic) before moving into the Bahamas on Thursday and then be in the northern Bahamas and off the coast of Florida on Saturday.  The conditions are not optimal for a major strengthening of the storm and the forecast keeps it a tropical storm throughout.  The confidence of the forecast after hitting Hispaniola is quite low so there are more questions then answers as to where the storm will end up.  It is worth watching but the storm seems unlikely at this point to have an impact here any time soon.
