I began my trip down to Florida with a flight into Fort Lauderdale and a quick drive up to the Boynton Beach area stopping first at Green Cay Wetlands. Despite arriving late in the afternoon the activity here was still quite good and resulted in my best ever view of a Least Bittern as it hunted the edges with success. There was also a very cooperative juvenile Cooper’s hawk that hung around the entrance allowing some close up looks. In addition, the Purple Martins had migrated back for another year and were checking out the nesting areas for them. Although short on time I managed to see a nice selection of typical south Florida winter birds in the time I was there.
Great shots, i love the hawk.
