November started much as October had ended...cold, windy and slightly snowy.  The last few days have featured well below normal temperatures with strong winds from the west and northwest and some occasional snow showers after picking up a few inches of snow at the end of October.  I managed to get out a little after work both on Sunday and today.  I stopped at Arcadia on my way home on Sunday and had a few decent birds including a few small subspecies of Canada Goose among a large flock, a late Eastern Phoebe, more flyover Evening Grosbeaks and at least eight Yellow rumped Warbler among 46 species on a very frosty morning.  A brief stop at Hadley Cove turned up some waterfowl as well as two Blackpoll Warblers and a Pine Warbler (more on warblers on that day link).  On Tuesday I headed right over to Winsor Dam where I hoped the fairly strong west and northwest winds would bring in some waterfowl and when I arrived Scott was already there.  We had some waterfowl around including 13 Black Ducks, a Greater Scaup, a Black Scoter, 16 Long tailed Ducks, 17 Bufflehead and a Red breasted Merganser as well as others.  We also had a couple Bonaparte's Gulls and a flock of Snow Buntings along the dam that would flush occasionally as people walked by.  There were also a few Yellow rumped Warblers still hanging around and picking insects off the side of the headquarters building.  The wind continued to pick up and blew fairly hard for the remainder of the day.  I made a few more stops to the dam over the course of the day in the hopes of finding a Golden Eagle but I came up short on that quest.  I did add more waterfowl with a flock of 21 Long tailed Ducks, two Red breasted Mergansers and more Bufflehead.  Today looks to be the last cold, windy day with tomorrow being a transition day as a big warm up occurs from Thursday into early next week with sunny conditions and temperatures into the 60's.
