I participated in the Springfield CBC this morning covering the area around Ashley Ponds, Holyoke Community College and areas near the Holyoke/West Springfield border along with Tom Gagnon. The morning started off in the low 20's but warmed somewhat to near freezing. However without much wind it felt fairly nice. Our hope for first light waterfowl on the ponds were quickly dashed when we discovered all of the ponds frozen. We still managed some nice birds including a Yellow bellied Sapsucker, Northern Flicker, Winter Wren and good numbers of other species. I will let the list fill in the species and numbers. A total of 33 species with a total of 1290 individuals.
