I stayed close to home this morning with a predawn visit to Lake Wallace and then a few hours over at Quabbin Park.  I managed to find another new species (#223) for the year for Hampshire County when I found a rather bright Philadelphia Vireo in a mixed species flock at Lake Wallace.  I actually managed to find five species of vireo today which is nice with a few of them still singing.  Lots of other good stuff with pockets of birds here and there.  I have included the lists from both Lake Wallace and Quabbin Park.

East Meadows at dawn, Northampton, MA, Sep 3, 2014
The previous two mornings I have made brief stops in the East Meadows looking for shorebirds and despite what seemed like decent conditions I only managed to find Killdeer with 31 in a single field on Wednesday and 14 in the same field yesterday.  There was also a decent swallow show (especially on Wednesday) with several hundred swallows present with most being Tree Swallows but with good numbers of Barn and Bank Swallows.  Hopefully some shorebirds show up in the fields soon.
