The first week of May comes to an end

Tree Swallow with leg bands, Silvio Conte NWR-Fort River, Hadley, MA, May 7, 2025
Blue winged Warbler, Covey WMA, Belchertown, MA, May 6, 2025
Cerulean Warbler, Quabbin Park, MA, May 5, 2025

The first week of May has now come to an end and we finally got some well deserved sunshine for at least part of the day after multiple days with clouds and bouts of rain.  Migration continued despite the less than ideal conditions on a few nights.  I got out as much as current circumstances allow and have concentrated on warblers mainly and have found 25 species so far for the month with the most unusual being an Orange crowned Warbler.  I'm rapidly closing in on 200 species in the county for the year and hopefully I will reach that goal tomorrow with good migration conditions looking to materialize overnight tonight.  We then will have to deal with a few more inches of rain from Thursday night until Saturday morning...Friday looks like a total rainout but perhaps something unusual will be put down by the rain?
