I spent a few hours this morning once again at Quabbin Park primarily looking for waterfowl but given the southerly winds I didn't expect to find too much. I started before dawn at Winsor Dam where I had a flyby group of nine Ring necked Ducks but little else so I headed into the park with stops at Hanks Meadow, the area near Goodnough Dike and the Route 9 marsh. Waterfowl included four Black Ducks, 9 Mallards, two Hooded Mergansers, 71 Common Mergansers in a single flock, a Red breasted Merganser, four Common Loons, 14 Horned Grebes and 7 Canada Geese. Besides the waterfowl I had a flyby Snow Bunting and an American Woodcock.

A stationary count at Winsor Dam produced a handful of waterfowl including a Common Loon, a pair of Wood Ducks, a Black Duck, seven Mallard and three Common Mergansers. Other notable birds included a flyover group of a dozen Snow Buntings, a group of 13 Wild Turkeys eating crab apples (with a few in the trees), four Bald Eagles and a somewhat late flyby Yellow rumped Warbler.  The calm conditions made viewing easy as the water was like glass.
