Barred Owl ignoring the 'No Trespassing' sign, Hadley, MA, Jan 13, 2013

Yet another very foggy day that never cleared up despite earlier forecasts of sun for the weekend.  At least it was not snowing!  I headed over to the Connecticut River in S. Hadley to check on gulls (I had an Iceland Gull there several days ago) but the fog limited visibility to the point of not being able to see the river at all.  After a few stops I headed north toward Hadley where I made a few stops including Aqua Vitae Road, the Honeypot and South Maple Street as well as Moody Bridge Road.  The Clay colored Sparrow that has been near the cemetery was still showing itself.  The only other bird of note was an American Pipit along Moody Bridge Road that continually avoided my attempts to get a photo through my binoculars.  With little activity here and poor visibility I headed north to UMASS and areas nearby.  Just Mallards and a few Black Ducks at the UMASS campus pond.  The best bird in the area was a Barred Owl (species #78 for the year) sitting on a fence which I managed to get a few digiscope shots of through the thick fog.  The owl seemed to be unimpressed by and ignoring the "No Trespassing" signs.
